Baum is a former resident of Los Angeles and the vicinity of Las Vegas. He also tours the country, reading from and signing his children's books. Baum is the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, the original creator of the "Oz" series, and grandson of Frank Joslyn Baum, who published The Laughing Dragon of Oz in 1935. Many of Roger S. Baum's children's books are set in the same world.

Baum had written short stories and another children's book, entitled Long Ears and Tailspin, before being approached by the International Wizard of Oz Club in 1987 to write original "Oz" stories. The success of his "Oz" books allowed him to leave his banking job in 1990, and become a full-time children's author. Sometimes Baum's earlier material is reworked in his later books; Long Ears and Tailspin's "Candy Land" reappears in his 2000 Toto book, for example.

One of Baum's books was made into the movie, Lion of Oz, and a film adaptation of Dorothy of Oz is planned by Alpine Pictures in association with Box Office Productions III. Dorothy of Oz is slated for a 2012 theatrical release.

Carls Pops Up

Fans of Good Dog, Carl know that when Mom says, "Look after the baby, Carl. I'll be back shortly," the excitement is about to begin, and this pop-up book is no exception. As soon as she's out the door, baby and dog are off on a wild afternoon filled with adventure. The first of many interactive pull-tabs has baby climbing out of his crib and onto Carl's back, which is like the bells ringing the start of a horse race--they're out of the gate and it's full speed ahead. Down the laundry chute, into the aquarium, and off to lunch--chocolate milk (heavy on the chocolate), cookies, and a little "butter" sandwich. Kids are sure to get a kick out of the miniature cuckoo that jumps from the clock, announcing cleanup time. As usual, Carl manages to erase all evidence of mischief and has the baby back in its crib when Mom walks through the door. Day gives Carl's many fans the chance to interact with the famous canine baby-sitter in this humorously understated pop-up. The rottweiler, the baby he cares for and selected objects inventively spring from the pages and-with the help of pull-tabs-move in a variety of entertaining ways. Upon opening the cover, which features a die-cut window, the reader is welcomed by a happy baby and an attentive, eager Carl-both of whom rise up from the title page. The two bounce on a bed, dress up comically and view themselves in an acetate mirror, and make a glorious mess having a snack. Under Carl's careful watch, baby has a swim in the aquarium and-in one of the book's most engaging uses of pull-tabs-jumps down the laundry chute and lands on top of a basket of clothes in the basement. After the child has a bath and is put down for a nap, the diligent dog cleans up in time for the return of mother, who greets him with the familiar "Good Dog, Carl!" Several of the coated pages in this paper-over-board volume fold out, adding extra dimension to a winsome addition to the Carl collection. All ages.

Condition is excellent the cover shows normal wear . The pages are unmarked and free of tears .

Please see pictures, this is a larger book and the corners got cut off by the scan but, they are in very good condition with just lightly bumped at the edges .
