Hans Holzer, PhD. was one of the early American writers to play a prominent role in the spread of contemporary Witchcraft, Wicca and Paganism during the late 1960’s and early 70’s. A prolific writer of over 145 books, mainly on associated Occult, Paranormal and Supernatural subjects, his early books on Witchcraft, namely: The Truth about Witchcraft (1969), The New Pagans: An Inside Report On the Mystery Cults of Today (1972) and Inside Witchcraft (1980) were written when few other books on witchcraft were available. As such he did much to boost and pave the way for many future contemporary writers to follow him.

Holzer is perhaps best known as the famed Ghost-hunter and Paranormal-investigator associated with the “Amityville House” horror investigations, which later became the subject of several popular horror films. In January 1977, Holzer working with the well-known trance medium Ethel Johnson-Meyers, entered 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. In 1974 this had been the place of a horrific murder, when the then occupant “Ronald DeFeo Jr” murdered his own parents and four siblings. After entering the premises, Meyers allegedly made contact the spirit of an old American Indian Chief, who revealed the site, had once been a sacred burial ground.

During the investigation Holzer discovered bullet holes created during the 1974 murders and took some photos, these when developed showed some rather unusual anomalies, for mysterious halos seemed to hover above them. Holzer believed that Ronald Defeo Jr. may have been possessed by the old American Indian chief, and that unscrupulous property developers had built the house on a sacred Indian burial site, a claim that the Amityville Historical Society strenuously tried to discredit. Later while filming the documentary, Holzer managed to get a representative from the property development company to reveal that the property at 112 Ocean Ave. had indeed been built on a sacred burial ground.

Book is in very good condition .

But there is an exciting extra dimension - it is completely interactive and gets readers directly involved in trying to solve the illusions themselves with a fully tactile experience. So it's actually a book that contains unique three-dimensional images!

The book contains more than 50 puzzling images, each requiring you to find the mind-boggling solutions using the accompanying card press-out pieces.

The clever teasers call for you to arrange or fold the specified pieces in the correct way to fit shapes inside another shape, create new shapes, pictures with an extra or missing object, patterns and logos. One of our favourites involves the optical effect tops - black and white discs which, when spun, project a illusion!

The Gospel Code by Beniii Witherington 2004

The Gospel Code by Beniii Witherington 2004 Paper Back
The popularity of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code has caused Christian apologists to address what they consider to be its heresies and historical errors. Witherington, a New Testament scholar at Asbury Theological Seminary, intends in this volume to add his voice to the growing criticism of Brown's novel. Each chapter treats an issue-the formation of the canon, the "married Jesus" theory, etc.-and then offers a wealth of background material to support an evangelical Christian viewpoint. Drawing on his background in Christian theology and church history, Witherington explains his position in a lucid and sometimes whimsical style. He is particularly strong when exploring and explaining the processes of textual criticism and redaction, and in helping readers understand the flow of Christian history and the development of doctrine. The influence of Gnosticism, ancient and modern, likewise receives extensive treatment. The book closes with an appeal for a more rational, and less speculative, consideration of the Jesus story. Quite apart from its treatment of Brown's novel, this book is a fine exposition of mainstream evangelical teaching and merits wide readership. (July) Forecast: Witherington's book is a late starter-Cook, Thomas Nelson, Ignatius and other publishers have already offered Da Vinci responses. Still, this more extensive, reasoned treatment may have the staying power that other instant books lack. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information. Ben Witherington III confronts the claims of The Da Vinci Code with the sure-footedness of a New Testament scholar, yet in the plain language that any interested reader can follow.

Dan Brown's international bestseller The Da Vinci Code has raised many questions in the minds of readers: Was Jesus really married to Mary Magdalene?
Did he father a child with her? Did Constantine suppress the earliest Gospels and invent the doctrine of Christ's divinity? Do the Gnostic Gospels represent the true Christian faith which the early church sought to supplant?

The Da Vinci Code popularizes the speculations

The Da Vinci Code popularizes the speculations and contentions of numerous more serious books that are also attracting wide attention. How should we respond to claims that we now have documents that reveal secrets about Jesus, secrets long suppressed by the church and other religious institutions? Do these new documents successfully debunk traditional views about Jesus and early Christianity?

Ben Witherington takes us back to the early centuries after Jesus' death and tells us what we can really know about Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the canonical Gospels and their Gnostic rivals.

Book is in excellent condition with light wear to the soft covers, in pages are clean and brigt. After attending Kansas State Teachers College, Martin taught high school journalism, drama, and English until 1941. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Air Force and served throughout World War II as a military newspaper editor. During this period, Martin received a letter from his brother, Bernard, who had been injured in a military training exercise. Bernard asked his brother to write a children's book that he could illustrate during his convalescence. The result was The Little Squeegy Bug. After the war, Martin and Bernard started their own publishing company, Tell-Well
Press, and released the book. Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt mentioned The Little Squeegy Bug on the radio, and the book subsequently sold over half a million copies. Martin and his brother produced numerous children's books during the next several years, with Martin writing and Bernard illustrating. As an author of children's literature, Martin became increasingly interested in children's reading habits and enrolled in graduate school at Northwestern University. After receiving his M.A., he accepted the position of principal at Crow Island Elementary School in Winnetka, Illinois. At Crow Island, Martin participated in developing and implementing a series of innovative classroom instructional methods. Martin received his Ph.D. in Reading and Child Development in 1961 and left Crow Island to join the publishing house of Holt, Rinehart & Winston as an editor and creator of elementary school reading materials. During his seven-year association with the firm, Martin produced the Sounds of Language textbooks for first through eighth graders. He also developed science, arithmetic, literature, language, and social studies collections, including the "Bill Martin Freedom Books" series, which alerts children to the concepts and responsibilities of living in a democracy, and the "Bill Martin Instant Readers" series, which use rhyming language to strengthen and enlarge children's reading skills. Martin left Holt, Rinehart & Winston to begin a freelance career in 1967 and has since continued his interest in writing and education through publishing and serving as a visiting professor at colleges and universities.

WITH LIGHT WEAR TO THE CLOTH COVERS , INSIDE IS VERY GOOD ALS, HAS NO TEARS OR MARKS .

There he meets the beautiful Melisma Tone-Cluster, prisoner of the nastiest bully in Slurrrr, Konrad Troubleclef, who plans to put an end to music everywhere. It will take all Notsos courage and ingenuity to free Melisma and to protect the eight magical musical Notes: Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, and The Other Do, who live and work in Rhapsody, where piano keys bloom like flowers in the gardens, trees grow into violins and guitars, and the clouds fill the drums with thunder. This delightful and original book for 5-to-8-year-olds and their parents tells a lively adventure story.Ian Penney, illustrator of Abrams Ian Penneys Book of Nursery Rhymes and Ian Penneys Book of Fairy Tales, has created two contrasting worlds and an array of unforgettable characters. Inventive and fun to read, A Noteworthy Tale effortlessly teaches the musical scale and an appreciation for music while providing hours of reading pleasure.

Dust jacket has a small tear at right top , otherwise book is like new condition .

The Flute Player / La flautista

Written By Robyn Harbert Eversole

This book list for over 75.00 on amazon as the collectors edition

Ages 4^-7. As a flute player plays songs of nature on the fifth floor of an apartment building, an old couple on the fourth floor hear the whistling of a cold wind, a woman on the third hears the sound of the sea, and a boy on the second hears the wailing of a ghost. But on the first floor, where the windows are shut, a little girl hears nothing but quiet. Taking her flute to be repaired, the flute player meets the little girl and lets her try to play the broken flute. The little girl unclogs it by blowing out butterflies that will flutter outside the apartment building, goose feathers for a quilt for the old couple, fish to fill an aquarium for the woman who longs for the sea, an owl that hoots like a ghost (but is not scary) for the boy, and a nightingale for herself so that she will always hear music. The expressionistic, mixed-media illustrations rendered in acrylic, gouache, pencil, and collage provide a harmonious visual accompaniment to the story, which is presented in both English and Spanish. These charming, exciting and humorous tales of the riverbank and its life featuring the wonderfully imagined Ratty, Mole, Badger and the irrepressible but conceited Toad of Toad Hall — whose passion for motor cars ("The only way to travel! Here today — in next week tomorrow") lands him in many scrapes — still continue exert their charm over adults as well as children.

Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh in 1859. He was educated at St Edward's School, Oxford but because of family circumstances he was unable to enter Oxford University. He joined the Bank of England as a gentleman clerk in 1879, rising to become Secretary to the Bank in 1898. He wrote a series of short stories published in such collections as The Golden Age (1895) and Dream Days (1898). These featured a fictional family of five children. In 1899 he married Elspeth Thomson and their only child, Alistair, was born a year later. He left the Bank in 1908 on health grounds. The same year, The Wind in the Willows was published. The book was not an immediate success, and he never attempted to write fiction again. However, the popularity of the novel grew steadily and by the time of Grahame's death in 1932 it was recognized as a children's classic.

Biography

Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. After the death of his mother and abandonment by his father, Grahame went to live with his grandmother in Berkshire, near the River Thames. He pursued his passion for writing while maintaining a career in banking. He enjoyed great success in both endeavors. The Wind in the Willows was originally written in parts and given in letter to his son.
Condition is MINT
